IFPI Appoints Jenny Wong as Asia Regional Director

IFPI, the organisation that represents the recorded music industry worldwide, has announced the appointment of Jenny Wong as Asia Regional Director.

Jenny will represent the interests of IFPI’s 1,300 record company members and, working in collaboration with IFPI’s National Groups, she will be focused on driving the continuing evolution of the music markets in Asia. Jenny will oversee IFPI’s work in the region in the areas of legal and policy engagement, licensing operations, content protection, market analysis, and charts and certification.

Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI, commented on the appointment: “Jenny is joining us at a very exciting time for the recording industry in Asia. Investment from record companies and the adoption of streaming services is fuelling its evolution and giving fans greater access to music than ever before. For this to be sustainable, the correct foundations must be put in place to ensure that fair revenues are returned to Asia’s music creators as these markets grow.

“Jenny’s experience, qualifications and skill set make her very well placed to lead this important work in the region.”

Simon Robson, President, Asia, Warner Music and Chair of IFPI’s Asia Pacific Regional Board, added: “IFPI has just announced in its Global Music Report that the Asia and Australasia region is now the second largest in the world for digital and physical recorded music revenue combined, with four of their countries now in the global top ten markets. I look forward to working with Jenny and I’ve no doubt she will be an asset to IFPI’s presence in the region.”

Jenny Wong commented: “I am delighted to be joining IFPI in Asia. I am looking forward to working with our member record companies and National Groups to ensure continued growth for the recording industry in Asia.”

Jenny has almost 20 years’ experience working in both legal affairs and public policy roles in the film and TV industries in Asia, having worked at Disney, WarnerMedia (formerly Time Warner) and, most recently, Universal Pictures, where she was Vice President, Legal Affairs, Greater China.

Jenny will take up the position on 8th April and be based in the IFPI Asia Regional office in Hong Kong.
