Finnish illegal file-sharer settles copyright case

Helsinki, 7th August 2008

A Finnish court has announced the settlement of a case involving an illegal file-sharer near Helsinki. The case arose when the Copyright Information and Anti-Piracy Center (CIAPC) requested an injunction from the Helsinki District Court against an internet user whose connection was being used to illegally file-share copyrighted music.

The court ordered the user’s ISP, TeliaSonera, to suspend his internet connection. This was the second such injunction granted under the provisions of Finland’s Copyright Act. The user admitted that a family member had used his connection to upload a considerable number of music files before the account was suspended. He has now settled the case and paid compensation for the illegal activity.
