State of the local industry

  • The Dutch market for singles has fallen by 50% in units and 54% in turnover between 2000 and 2004.
  • Sales of CD albums have decreased by 35% in 5 years, from 466 million euros in 2000 to 302 million euros in 2004.
  • The average price for a CD album reached an all time low in 2004 at 12.90 euro.
  • Since 1998 the compilation market, traditionally one of the strongest strands of the Dutch recording industry, has more than halved in turnover (55%).
  • The under 20s old buy less CD's than they used to; in 2004 their share decreased to 19%.
