Unauthorised file-sharing
- Broadband penetration is 21% (Austria, Q2 2004) of all households
- 500,000 Austrians swap music on unauthorised file-sharing services on the internet (Austrian Internet Monitor, Q2 2004)
- 34 % of all Austrian Internet users say that they have downloaded music from the Internet at least once; 49 % of the under 30 year olds and 35%
of the under 50 year olds (Karmasin Research, Q2 2004).
Awareness
- 7 out of 10 of unauthorised file-sharers know that uploading unauthorised music is illegal.
State of the local industry
- Between 2000 and 2003 music sales fell by 64 million euro - a 20 % drop.
- Music buying has declined between 2002 and 2003 by 7% among 14-19 year olds and 13% among 20-29 year olds (GfK Market Research).
