March 2001 - Platinum Europe AwardsApril 9, 2001 US artists achieving significant sales in Europe were reflected in five of the seven Platinum Awards awarded in March going to North Americans. Eminem's 1999 album release, The Slim Shady LP, achieved its first Platinum Europe award for sales across Europe of one million. North America's high profile rapper recently undertook a series of sold-out shows across Europe. US singer Jennifer Lopez has already reached the pinnacle of one million sales for her album J.Lo, which was released in January this year. British newcomers Coldplay's debut Parachutes continues its climb onwards and upwards with a double Platinum award. US R&B act Destiny's Child album The Writing's On the Wall also reaches the two million mark. The sole advertising route taken for Barry White's greatest hits collection was international TV advertising, with White's The Ultimate Collection selling over three million copies in Europe. Robbie Williams latest album Sing When You're Winning also goes three times Platinum. A US artist achieving a monumental seven million sales in Europe is Bon Jovi, with the 1994 album Cross Road. The album, the band's collection of
greatest hits, has gone Platinum in 17 European countries - double or multi-Platinum in 14 of them. Bon Jovi is currently on a comprehensive world
tour, which is coming to the UK in the summer.
